These days, the 70-member Chancel Choir at FOPC is experiencing a spiritual and musical revival. Here's part of the reason why: We believe that choir is about more than just music. Choir is not something you join, it's something you believe.
Our heart's desire is that choir be a place for spiritual nurturing and growth. Choir is also the place for great music-making, and there's nothing at all unChristianlike about the healthy pursuit of excellence. Great choirs stretch their capacities and present the results to God.
The Choir sings two services each Sunday, 9:30 and 11:00 AM, plus seasonal performances with orchestral accompaniment at Christmas and Easter. You can also find the Choir singing at special services year-round.
Music in our convergent services is eclectic: We love the classics and the great choral monuments, but we also use standard church anthem repertoire, traditional hymns and all kinds of contemporary music. The choir is accompanied by pianist Ellen Koehler and organist Carol Newton Hawk. If you’d like to learn more about either of our wonderful accompanists, try this link: Worship Staff.
Membership is open and experience is useful, but not required. We have 2 retreats during the year. Our ‘Mini-Retreat’ we call "Camp Crescendo", held on the FOPC campus, June 7-9, 2007, and the Annual Chancel Choir Retreat at Lake Tahoe’s Zephyr Point Presbyterian Conference Center, August 24-26, 2007. If you enjoy singing, we would welcome you to join us. Practice is held every Thursday evening from 7 -9 PM, in the worship center.
