Thank you to all who donated to our Haiti relief fund. Our special
offering on Sunday January 17th totaled a little over $15,000. These
funds will be sent to Samaritan's Purse as they meet first wave needs and to
work with the needs for "Real Hope for Haiti Rescue
Center." We came to know
of this center through church members, Ron and Christi Kagstrom. Their daughter
Anna has been serving as a missionary in this area for the past year.
During the first earthquake the rescue center sustained
damage to the building they were occupying. With the aftershocks the country is
still receiving, the building was further damaged and it is not possible for
the children to live there. The center is in the process of moving to another
home in the same village. They will need to do some rewiring to the house and
get a new battery inverter system which they hope to have completed in the next
2 to 4 weeks. We are proud to say that FOPC will help with these needs.
In the meantime the children continue to sleep outside and
the center is getting dangerously low on supplies. The center houses and cares
for approximately 60 children at a time in varying states of illness and are
often suffering from severe forms of malnutrition. Anna, working with her
agency was in Florida for a couple of days and was able to purchase some of the
much needed supplies and send them back to the center. (Again, FOPC was able to
help with the purchase of these supplies.)
Another service the Real Hope for Haiti Center
provides is a medical clinic in the village. During the first days after the
quake people from Port-au-Prince were making the 20 mile trip to get medical
help at the clinic as the hospitals and rescue centers in the capital were
overrun with patients. The staff continues to help in as many ways as they can.
Please continue to hold the center and all of the Haitian
people in your prayers. Even in the face of tragedy God can be glorified. Pray
that those working there with Christian organizations will continue to be a
light to the people of Haiti
at this time. If you would like to make a donation, checks can be made payable
to FOPC with the word Haiti
written in the memo line. Checks can be dropped in the offering plate, given to
the missions or finance office or can be mailed to the church.
